IMG_4740.JPG As tahe paddlers arrive 30 miles upstream at Willow Beach, Baywatch Bill and Weigh 2 Go arrive at beautiful Cottonwood Cove as Richard unloads Sea Scouts and gear at Willow Beach and drives the truck down to Cottonwood Cove to meet up with Bill.

IMG_4730.JPG Ah, what a peaceful scene, undeniably a boon to the paddlers. IMG_4713.JPG But the first thing Baywatch Bill notices on arrival are the wind flags. Two flying briskly means nasty winds, the bane of all paddlers.

IMG_4709.JPG The second thing Baywatch Bill notices is a catamaran. Hmmm, a Hobi Cat at Cottonwood? Very odd. Baywatch Bill thinks nothing more of it and has a peaceful night's sleep in the Desert Rat truck.

IMG_4702.JPG Next morning, Baywatch Bill finds he and Richard are surrounded by Hobi Cats in the parking lot. IMG_4703.JPG Dozens of 'em, all in various stages of being rigged.

IMG_4705.JPG Byawatch Bill sees Misty at the registration desk, and finds that indeed this weekend are Hobi Cat races on the lake. Yikes, is his reacton.

IMG_4712.JPG Soon they have theri orientation meeting. IMG_4724.JPG And set sail for the starting line.

April 3 --12 2009 023 Meanwhile, the paddlers up at Willow Beach prepare to launch.

April 3 --12 2009 040 A While BB and Richard are getting hammered with wind and waves, the paddlers are enjoying total serenity. April 3 --12 2009 042 A And what bucolic panoramas they have.

IMG_4741.JPG Meanwhile, Baywatch Bill and Richard, in Weigh to Go, boat up to the paddlers, who have made good headway the first day and found a wonderful campsite in Double Neck Cove.

IMG_4745.JPG What a majestic canyon for their first campsite.

IMG_4746.JPG The desert is beginning to put on a wildflower show.

IMG_4743.JPG Starting with dogweed flowers.

IMG_4752.JPG Soon the paddlers break camp. Here, Caroliine uses her powers of levitation to bring the gear into place.

IMG_4771.JPG Caroline and David take time to absorb the tranquility.

Find the paddlers

IMG_4775.JPG At Chalk Cliffs, the river widens and the winds will pick up considerably. Oh, by the way, find the paddlers. You'll have to click on this picture to magnify it.

IMG_4776.JPG Our resourceful and creative Sea Scouts, feeling the wind pick up a bit, turn a bane into a boon. Here they experiment with an alternative modus locomotive as the Elders look on and scoff.

IMG_4784.JPG Afternoon finds the group at campsite #2 in Tule Wash Cove.

IMG_4782.JPG The Sea Scouts form a work party to bring the gear ashore.

IMG_4797.JPG And soon supper is beginning to form.

IMG_4791.JPG Eurasia minces fresh garlic.

IMG_4796.JPG The cook samples the BeefTtortellini Supreme.

IMG_4798.JPG After supper, a dune-climbing race ensues.

IMG_4799.JPG Richard points out how Weigh 2 Go has tied her bow line to her own anchor line.

IMG_4800.JPG Sailors - idenitfy this knot! IMG_4807.JPG The next morning, their sail perfected and unfurled, the Sea Scout catamaran makes excellent headway ...

IMG_4805.JPG ... as the Elders staunchly refuse to participate in such tom-foolery. But noticing the incredible easy headway the Sea Scouts are making ....

IMG_4810.JPG ... the Elders soon conform and raft up to form a trimaran. IMG_4811.JPG They rig their sail
IMG_4815.JPG And they are soon aweigh

IMG_4825.JPG The Nina and the Pinta as seen from the Santa Maria

IMG_4829.JPG Soon, the Sea Scouts in the Pinta hoist the colors.
IMG_4834.JPG As do the Elders in the Nina.

IMG_4826.JPG And the Santa Maria makes three.

IMG_4866.JPG That afternoon, we find a beautiful beach at Owl Point Cove for our next stopover.

IMG_4872.JPG The kitchen and living room are soon constructed. IMG_4877.JPG A Grackle stops by for a visit to see its new neighbors.

IMG_4877.JPG They don't make glass this smooth, do they ???

IMG_4877.JPG A full moon greets the paddlers at Owl Point Cove

IMG_4845.JPG
But all is not peachy on the river. Unbeknownst to the paddlers, they have landed on The Cove of the Mummy.

IMG_4848.JPG AND IT'S ALIVE ! ! !

IMG_4863.JPG The Mummy arises from its tomb, and sets out to eat the Sea Scouts arm by leg.

IMG_4854.JPG But the invincible Sea Scouts overpower the Mummy and proceed to send it back to its tomb.

IMG_4856.JPG
R.I.P Old Mummy !! The curse is broken!

IMG_4860.JPG
And the Mummy is mow securely encased in its tomb for Eternity.

IMG_4865.JPG Meanwhile, nothing fazes Richard.
Here, he nonchalantly demonstrates how to eat applesauce with chopsticks. Like the Sea Scouts, he "Left No Trace".

IMG_4865.JPG Sadly, the adventure comes to an end as the paddlers reach the takeout point back down at Cottonwood Cove.

IMG_4865.JPG Richard wonders why BB is hanging upside down off the bow.
