All of the courses listed below are NASBLA-approved, and will qualify you to join USPS and enjoy all the benefits.
However, there are many other educational opportunities which also qualify you to join USPS.

USPS BOATING SAFETY COURSES AND CLASSES

Please note: Additional classes will be posted when they are available.
With some flexibility, fall is defined as October-November-December, winter is January-February-March, spring is April-May-June.
This schedule may be adjusted from time to time as necessary, and will be updated and posted accordingly.

SQUADRON BOATING COURSE

Course description:

This is an 8-hour course usually presented on a Saturday. The USPS Squadron Boating Course is our primary civic effort toward public instruction in the fundamentals of safe boating.The course is designed to familiarize the student with the fundamentals of safe boating and qualify for certification in most states that require boating education before operating a watercraft. Instruction is free. Cost for the course materials is $35.

A 12-hour version of the class includes topics in piloting.

Topics include:

Boat handling under normal conditions
Adverse conditions and emergencies
Types of boats and boating terminology
Required and recommended equipment
Boating regulations and navigation rules
Lines and knots
Charts and aids to navigation
Piloting techniques (in 12-hour class only)
Marine radiotelephone usage
Trailer boating

AMERICA'S BOATING COURSE

Course description:

This couse is equivalent to the USPS Squadron Boating Course, but it is a computer-hosted CD course designed for home study.

This is computer-hosted course on CD. Cost is $40. After you study the CD course, you can take the test online. Benefits are similar to those of the USPS Squadron Boating Course.

REGISTRATION POLICY

You must be pre-registered for the class and must have pre-paid for your class materials. Walk-ins cannot be accepted, as you will not have the class materials you need. You can pre-register online below. You may also pre-register by email at SEO@ArrowheadSPS.org. Your payment is required to complete the registration process. After pre-registration online or via email, you will be contacted with instructions for how to pay. Finally, you will receive a confirmation email which will also tell you where and what time the class is and driving instructions. Your class materials will be shipped to you at your mailing address before the class begins.

REFUND POLICY

Fees for class materials are due and payable at time of registration. No refunds will be given. If you cancel at least one week prior to the class, you will be given full credit for your fees, which can be applied to any other Arrowhead class of your choosing within one year. If you cancel within one week of the class, your class materials will have already been shipped to you, and you may use them in a future class. Registration for a class ends one week before the class begins.
